Retroware Announces Prison City Speedrun at Summer Games Done Quick
Developer Programancer and Retroware, the Philly area indie game publisher behind the neo-retro action platformer Prison City, are excited to announce the game’s participation in the annual charity speedrunning event Summer Games Done Quick.
The Prison City speedrun kicks off tomorrow, July 9, at 9:54 AM EST, when speedrunner and ROM hack creator DanTheVP will attempt an Any% completion run on Modern difficulty, while fellow streamers Hank Sinatra and Bobbeigh provide couch commentary throughout the run. Additionally, CartridgeBlowers will be on the mic to kick off the segment, introduce the team, and read donations from the live chat as funds are raised for charity. An incentive tied to the run will be revealed just prior to the start, so you’ll want to tune in early!
Inspired by Escape from New York and 8-bit classics like Shatterhand and Power Blade, Prison City throws players into the crime-infested city of Detroit after it’s been transformed into a sprawling mega prison. After a group of Techno-Terrorists seizes control of the crumbling metropolis, ex-cop Hal Bruzer is called back from retirement by his mentor, "The Chief," to bring them down and hopefully restore the city’s spirit.
If you’ve yet to experience this love letter to NES action titles, now’s the perfect time. The game is available at a 30% discount for a limited time on Steam.
