Mindseye Developer Build a Rocket Boy Officially Enters Administration

Build a Rocket Boy, the developer behind Mindseye, has officially entered administration in the United Kingdom, adding another major development to the studio’s increasingly uncertain future.

A filing dated September 25 was added to the company’s official UK government records confirming that administrators have been appointed. The move does not automatically mean the studio has closed, but it places its future under review as administrators determine what happens next.

What Administration Means for Build a Rocket Boy

When a company enters administration, control is typically transferred from its existing management to appointed administrators. Their job is to assess the company's financial situation and determine the best course of action.

That can include attempting to sell the business, restructuring its operations, liquidating assets, or ultimately shutting the company down.

The official administration document is expected to become available within 10 days, meaning additional information about Build a Rocket Boy's situation could emerge soon.

Administration Follows Another Round of Layoffs

The development comes shortly after Build a Rocket Boy went through another round of layoffs.

The job cuts occurred just over a week before the administration filing and reportedly raised concerns among employees about the studio's ability to continue operating.

HR employee Dan Hawkins previously indicated that he expected to remain with the company through the process, saying he would help handle matters within the HR department through the studio's final stages.

While the comments did not officially confirm a shutdown, the subsequent administration filing has increased questions surrounding the company's future.

From Everywhere to Mindseye

Build a Rocket Boy was founded in 2016 by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies.

The studio initially worked on Everywhere, an ambitious MMO and game-creation platform, while also developing Mindseye. However, the company's direction eventually shifted.

By May 2025, references to Everywhere had reportedly disappeared from Build a Rocket Boy's official website, leaving Mindseye as the studio's most visible project.

Mindseye launched amid significant attention surrounding Build a Rocket Boy and Leslie Benzies, but the studio has since faced substantial challenges.

What Happens Next?

For now, administration does not provide a definitive answer about whether Build a Rocket Boy will survive as an independent studio.

The appointed administrators will determine whether the company can be restructured, sold, or otherwise preserved, or whether its remaining operations will eventually be brought to an end.

More details should become available once the full administration filing is published. Until then, the future of the Mindseye developer remains uncertain.
