Square Enix is preparing for a major 2027, and Naoki Hamaguchi appears to have a major role in making it happen. While Hamaguchi is directing Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the next chapter of the remake trilogy, he has also revealed that he is involved in keeping development on Kingdom Hearts 4 moving forward.

Hamaguchi Has Two Major Projects on His Plate

Speaking with Deadline, Hamaguchi discussed Square Enix's ambitions for 2027 and highlighted both Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and Kingdom Hearts 4 as important projects for the company.

Both games are being developed within Creative Studio 1, the studio Hamaguchi leads. He indicated that he will be closely involved with ensuring both projects continue progressing toward their respective launches.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled to arrive on April 8, while Kingdom Hearts 4 currently has a 2027 release window.

Kingdom Hearts 4 Continues to Take Shape

Square Enix has remained relatively quiet about Kingdom Hearts 4 since its initial reveal, although recent footage has started providing more insight into the long-awaited sequel.

One of the recently confirmed Disney settings is the Land of the Dead from Pixar's Coco, giving fans their first major indication of how new worlds will factor into Sora's next adventure.

More information is expected as Square Enix gets closer to launch.

Could Final Fantasy Get More Adaptations?

Hamaguchi also discussed the possibility of Square Enix bringing more of its major franchises to television and film.

With a Kingdom Hearts animated series in development for Disney+, Hamaguchi explained that Square Enix is actively considering different opportunities for adapting its intellectual properties. That includes Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 7, although no specific adaptation has been announced.

For now, Square Enix's biggest focus appears to be getting Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and Kingdom Hearts 4 across the finish line.
