1047 Games, the studio behind Splitgate and Splitgate 2, is reportedly working on a brand-new multiplayer shooter inspired heavily by Titanfall and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. The project, currently known internally as “Empulse,” is said to feature fast-paced movement mechanics, wall-running, grappling hooks, and giant combat mechs.
According to pre-alpha gameplay details shared with Insider Gaming, Empulse appears to lean hard into the futuristic mobility-focused gameplay that helped Titanfall build its cult following. Players can reportedly chain together movement abilities like boost pads, grappling swings, and wall-running to rapidly traverse maps during intense Team Deathmatch battles.
The biggest headline feature, however, is the inclusion of pilotable mechs.
Gameplay footage reportedly shows large mechanized units scattered throughout matches, allowing players to jump directly into combat machines mid-game. One mech shown in the footage was equipped with a heavy Gatling gun, defensive shielding, and a missile launcher with cooldown abilities, immediately drawing comparisons to Titanfall’s iconic Titans.
The similarities aren’t exactly surprising. Earlier this year, 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx confirmed that a small internal team was developing a movement-based shooter inspired by Titanfall and Black Ops 3. Empulse now appears to be that project.
Unlike Splitgate’s colorful arena aesthetic and portal-focused gameplay, Empulse reportedly adopts a grittier visual tone closer to Ubisoft’s now-shuttered XDefiant. The overall presentation seems designed to appeal directly to fans of classic sci-fi shooters that prioritize speed, fluidity, and vertical combat over slower tactical pacing.
At the moment, Empulse remains in pre-alpha development, meaning many features could still change before launch. Details surrounding progression systems, game modes, monetization, and platform availability have not yet been revealed. It’s also unclear whether the mechs will feature different classes and abilities or if customization will play a major role.
Despite the uncertainty, the project arrives at an interesting time for the multiplayer FPS genre.
Fans have spent years asking EA and Respawn Entertainment for a proper Titanfall revival, only to receive little more than vague comments and Apex Legends tie-ins. That has left a noticeable gap in the market for high-speed arena shooters built around advanced movement systems and mech combat.
1047 Games may be aiming to capitalize on that demand.
The studio already proved with Splitgate that it understands fluid movement mechanics and fast-paced competitive design. If Empulse successfully combines those strengths with large-scale mech battles and a more grounded sci-fi tone, it could end up attracting the audience Titanfall fans have been waiting for.
Whether that translates into long-term success remains to be seen, especially after Splitgate 2 struggled to maintain momentum following launch. Still, the concept alone has already sparked significant interest among shooter fans hungry for a fresh take on the genre.
Empulse is reportedly expected to be officially announced sometime later this year.
