Over the past several hours, our #PitchYaGame post sparked a lot of discussion across social media. We’ve seen excitement, curiosity, questions, and yes—some frustration. As a platform that supports independent developers, we want to address the conversation directly, respectfully, and professionally.
First and foremost, the goal of our post was simple: to give indie developers a place to showcase their work.
The indie development community is filled with incredibly talented creators building games with passion, creativity, and determination. Unfortunately, many amazing projects never get the exposure they deserve because discoverability is one of the hardest challenges in the industry. Posts like this are meant to help solve that problem—even in a small way.
Clarifying the #PitchYaGame Conversation
We want to address something important that came up in the replies.
When we created our post encouraging developers to share their games, we were not aware that #PitchYaGame originally started as a community initiative created by others.
After seeing the responses and discussions, we now understand that the hashtag has an established history within the indie development community.
We want to be clear about one thing:
There was never any intention to take ownership of the hashtag or misrepresent its origins.
Our goal was simply to create an opportunity for indie developers to share their projects with us and with the wider community. We respect the people who originally started the initiative and appreciate the impact it has had in helping developers gain visibility.
Why We Encouraged Developers to Share Their Games
At The Gamer Section, we are constantly searching for indie games to highlight across our platform. Our coverage includes:
Gameplay features
Live streams
Written reviews
Video reviews
Podcast discussions
Developer interviews
Indie showcases
With so many indie games being developed every year, it can be difficult to discover everything happening in the scene. Encouraging developers to share their projects directly with us helps us find games that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Our intention was simply to create an open space where developers could post:
Trailers
Gameplay clips
Screenshots
Demo links
Store pages
and tell us about the games they are working on.
The Gamer Section Summer Indie Game Showcase — June 22nd
Another major reason we invited developers to share their projects is because we are currently preparing for our upcoming event:
The Gamer Section Summer Indie Game Showcase — June 22nd
This showcase will spotlight a selection of indie games and give developers an opportunity to present their trailers and projects to a broader audience.
The purpose of the showcase is to:
Highlight talented indie developers
Help smaller games gain visibility
Introduce new titles to our audience
Celebrate creativity within the indie gaming community
Developers who share their projects with us may be considered for inclusion in the showcase.
While not every game can be featured, we are always looking for exciting projects to highlight across our content.
A Message to the Community
We understand that social media discussions can become heated at times, but we believe the most important thing is supporting developers and the games they are creating.
If our post caused confusion about the origins of the hashtag, we sincerely appreciate the community helping clarify that history.
At the end of the day, our focus remains the same:
Supporting indie developers and discovering great games.
To the Indie Developers
If you are working on a game, we would still love to see it.
Whether your project is:
Early in development
A prototype
A demo
Near release
Already released
Feel free to share your work with us.
Tell us about your game, your vision, and what makes your project unique.
Indie development takes an incredible amount of passion, time, and dedication. Every game represents someone’s creativity and hard work, and those projects deserve to be seen.
Let’s Focus on the Games
Gaming is built on creativity and community. Some of the most memorable and beloved games in the industry started as small indie projects that simply needed a chance to be discovered.
That’s what we want to help with.
So rather than focusing on arguments or negativity, we’d love to shift the conversation back to the thing that matters most:
the games themselves.
Final Thoughts
To everyone who joined the conversation—thank you. Community feedback is always valuable, and we appreciate the discussion.
Most importantly, we want to continue supporting the developers who dedicate their time and creativity to building incredible games.
And as we prepare for our upcoming event, we’re excited to see what developers are creating.
Developers: Share your trailers, gameplay clips, screenshots, or demos and tell us about the game you're working on.
You may even have the opportunity to be featured in:
The Gamer Section Summer Indie Game Showcase — June 22nd.
We’re always looking for the next indie gem to play, stream, and review.
