Like A Game Studios: Interview
1. WHAT WAS THE FIRST GAME YOU PLAYED THAT MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH THE GAME?
I can't remember how I started playing, as I've been playing all my conscious life. I could point to many
games that have increasingly cemented my love of video games. And there are actually a lot of these
games. And each one has imprinted itself on my mind in its own way. But if I had to choose, it would be
the Spyro series of games.
2. HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN GAME DEVELOPMENT?
You can write a book, and the reader will recreate what they read in their head with the details you
describe. You can make a film, and the viewer will see everything in the frame. Now imagine that you
can create a whole world where the player can decide for himself how to behave and what to do...
That's why I'm attracted to game-making. And the first such opportunity I got when I was 14 years old
making maps in Warcraft III.
3. HOW DID THE GAME STUDIO COME ABOUT?
The team is not full yet, but we already call ourselves a studio! And it wasn't spontaneous at all. I have
been developing alone for about 9 months and when I noticed that there was interest in the game, I
decided to find a team. Since I have no money, I could only count on enthusiasts willing to work on the
game for the idea, experience or potential success. I was lucky in that I already had quite a lot of work to
do, and managed to get the attention of the right people. Moreover, before that, I actively
participated in the game in contests and had some minor, but nevertheless regalia.
4. WHAT GAMES HAVE YOU DONE BEFORE THIS GAME?
Before that, I made a lot of small prototypes that weren't published, and I was involved in developing
World of Warships is a 3D artist for over 3 years.
5. WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION FOR THE GAMES TITLE?
The very first title was Escape From Farm, which spoke for itself, but later on, the concept changed
and the name changed to the current one - Quiet Farm. Of course, Quiet Farm has an ambiguous
meaning as well as the idea of the game itself, because the farm was indeed quiet before the events
that will take place in the game. Alas, I can't tell you anymore.
6. WHAT ENGINE ARE YOU USING TO CREATE THIS GAME?
We are using Unreal Engine 4.
7. WHO IS THE MAIN CHARACTER IN THE GAME?
First and foremost, the main character is of course the cow, her indispensable companion and helper is
the little alien. The player takes control of both at once. The cow acts as a character for moving,
overcoming obstacles and close combat, and the alien as a tool to interact with the environment. After
all, our cow is incapable of interacting with electrical devices, picking up objects and long-range
shooting. But for all these actions, the alien expends energy, which in the field can only be recovered by
using cow pellets, which the UFO converts into methane. Thus, we get a symbiotic strong relationship
between these two heroes.
8. WHERE DOES THE ACTION OF THIS GAME TAKE PLACE?
The game takes place in an alternate near-future on planet Earth, where some of the technology has
been developed quite well, while other things familiar to our real world are hopelessly lagging behind.
There is no need to be tied to a specific location, as the player will travel through a variety of locations,
including the farm itself, which is called "Silent Farm."
9. IS THIS GAME AN OPEN WORLD OR DOES IT GO CHAPTER BY CHAPTER?
We plan to make two modes at once: Sandbox and Story.
In Sandbox mode, the player will have access to a variety of mechanics for an unforgettable gameplay
experience, a lot of unique content, challenges, Easter eggs, etc. And we plan to update this mode
constantly.
In story mode will be a full-fledged adventure with a half-open world, which will consist of 4 global
locations. On those locations will be a lot of passages and closed areas with local challenges, and to get
access to them, the player will need to get a special technology for the alien or mutation for the cow. At
the same time, the player will be able to return to previous locations to unlock previously inaccessible
areas.
10. WITHOUT FURTHER SPOILERS, WHAT ABILITIES ARE IN THE GAME?
There will be a lot of them and they are divided between the two main characters at once! The main
abilities of the UFO: shoot clots of plasma, pick up various objects and shock.
There's no point in listing the cow's basic abilities, but she has the most interesting one: laying down
cow cakes. The cow can restore her energy and life by eating grass and rare flowers. In addition, she
gets points of waste, which is used to create cow tortillas. Not only are they useful for restoring UFO
energy by converting the tortillas into methane, but they can also be used to stun some enemies who
might slip on them. Moreover, with the help of tortillas the player will be able to overcome obstacles,
but that's how we'll leave it an intrigue!
11. IS THERE ANY RPG ELEMENTS IN THE GAME?
Yes, but very indirectly. Both the alien and the cow get different resources, which are used to pump up
the main abilities. Of all the destroyed mechanical, and electronic items fall gears for the alien, and of all the
mutants and GMOs fall mutagens for the cow.
12. IT LOOKS LIKE THIS GAME HAS PUZZLES, WHAT TYPE OF PUZZLES ARE IMPLEMENTED THERE?
Yes, we have puzzles. Most of them are testamentary related to the abilities of the main characters,
simple physics and space. For example, we have wires that conduct electricity, hoses that conduct water
and they can be carried by an alien, connected to certain devices to make them work and do a certain
task.
13. WHY SHOULD PEOPLE WANT TO BUY THIS GAME?
First, we have a very complicated and ambiguous protagonist with a very strange symbiotic relationship
with a small alien.
Second, we have a lot of uncontrollable chaos in the game, which is very positive for the gaming
experience.
And third, we are not afraid to add to the game the most reckless, somewhere silly and ambiguous
mechanics and ideas that our older AAA game developers have not risked adding.
14. WHERE CAN I FIND THIS GAME AND WHEN WILL IT COME OUT?
The game will definitely come out on Steam, but if all goes well, it will also come out on modern
consoles. And the release date is always hard to predict. After all, external circumstances always make
their changes. I can only say that not this year.
