Playground Games may be best known for Forza Horizon, but the studio's Fable team was reportedly built around one shared passion: the original RPG series.

Fable director Ralph Fulton says virtually everyone working on the upcoming reboot is a fan of the original trilogy, with many developers joining Playground Games specifically because they wanted to help bring the beloved franchise back.

Fable Was the Reason Developers Joined

Speaking with Future Games Show, Fulton explained that Playground built the development team from the ground up, attracting developers from around the world.

According to Fulton, their primary motivation wasn't simply joining Playground Games. It was the opportunity to work on Fable.

The director says that shared enthusiasm has helped shape the project, with the team entering the studio with the same objective: create a Fable game worthy of the series.

A Major Story Is Promised

Fulton is also confident that players will be surprised by the game's narrative.

The director teased a story filled with memorable characters, twists and major turning points. In keeping with the series' tradition, the adventure will eventually lead players toward a significant decision with consequences attached to it.

The team has previously emphasized the importance of the game's finale as well, with Fulton saying the developers put considerable effort into making the ending meaningful despite the fact that many players never finish the games they start.

Fable Finally Has a Release Date

Fable is currently scheduled to launch on February 23, 2027, for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.

The game was previously planned for release in 2026, but Playground Games ultimately moved it into early 2027. Fulton has previously expressed relief about avoiding the increasingly crowded end-of-year release window.

That means Playground now has additional time to polish the game before its return to the world of Albion.
